Hey Friends!

Welcome to Bluebird! Where our mission is to bring joy, hope, & happiness to everyone that enters our door. Here you will find things that inspire funny antidotes and of course fashion.

Introduction

Hi friends!! My name is Wendy, and I manage a cute little boutique in my hometown of Menasha, Wisconsin. We carry an array of items from World’s Softest Socks, Judy Blue Jeans, Farmhouse Fresh skin care, enewton jewelry, Nora Fleming, Inis and SO much more!! When you enter the door at 850 Racine Street, we want to make sure you feel welcome. From the scents and sounds to the textures and colors. Everything works together to ensure you feel at peace, have fun and most importantly- enjoy your time. My goal is to use this blog space to share new products, style tips, and any random thoughts that pop into my head. Kind of like you are shopping with me in store, but from the comfort of your home. But if you know me, that could change from week to week;) So there you have it. Welcome to the blog. Let’s see where it goes!!!

Vacations Are Near!

Vacations are coming up. One of the things I hear people often say is they hate packing. I am people. What will the weather be like? Will I be going to dinner anywhere "fancy"? Are flip-flops acceptable everywhere? What if I don't like what I pack once I get there?

I still remember my first trip out of the country for an island vacation. Having never been there I wasn’t sure what to bring. So, I brought it all!! Literally- jeans and sweatshirts, shorts and tanks, dresses with fancy shoes, linen pants and tops. Want to know what I ended up in 95% of the time? A swimsuit!!

Over the years I learned to pack less and less. One year my sister and I even dared each other to pack only a carry on. I did it but went with a checked bag for souvenirs.

I have found a few tricks over the years to make packing easier:

1: Pick 3 colors. Usually a staple (think black, navy, tan), then a pop of color (red, pink, green), and lastly a basic color (white, cream, grey). This will make it easier to mix & match.

2: Try the 5-4-3-2-1 packing method- a simple packing technique, where you pack five tops, four bottoms, three pairs of shoes, two dresses, and one set of accessories. They should mix & match easily!

3: Try things on to make sure they fit, and you like how they look on. Sounds simple but this is often a step we overlook which leads to adding more pieces “just in case”

4: Start 2-3 days before your trip. Earlier and you may do what I do- keep adding. Any later and you will feel rushed and not have time to edit.

Hopefully, these tips will make packing for your next trip more enjoyable. If you need help picking out pieces, we are here to help!!!

Happy traveling!!

What is it like to go on a buying trip?

Many think attending a trade show is all fun and fashion. And it is. But it is so much more than that. It is building a collection with You, our Bluebird friends and family, in mind.

It starts with the booking a flight, making sure the store is covered and plowed (several times this last trip!!) Then we have to pack our fav fashions that are comfortable and packable. This trip included lots of Oh My Gauze. Loving this no need to iron easy to wear line- more coming in

March;) And of course comfortable shoes for the miles and miles that are walked each day.

Once we get checked in, the games begin!! There are rows and rows of the latest fashion trends, accessories and more. We scour through it all looking for the perfect pieces that will become “go to’s” in your closet. One thing we do when we discover a fun piece is ask ourselves, “do we know 3 people that would love this?”. If the answer is “yes”, it gets added to the collection.

The days go by fast as we build the collection piece by piece until it is time to head back and await all the new arrivals!!

I always say, I have the best job in the world. And I do. So very thankful I get to do what I love thanks to you all!!!

New Year, Great Skin

We love Farmhouse Fresh and think you will too!!
What better time to try a new skin care product than the start of a new year. Winter weather can take a toll on our skin- the cold temps, dry air...It's a recipe for dryness. Two years ago when this line was presented to me, I was definitly hesitant. Skin care is a very personal choice and I wasn't sure our customer would be open to trying something new. But, i read about the company and its mission to rescue animals. I learned about the clean ingredients and how they were sourced. My interest was peaked. So we brought in a few items to test the waters. Many of you already knew all about Farmhouse Fresh and it was a part of your daily routine. Others were open to trying something new. We were off to the races! I started personally expreimenting with diffent washes, moisturizers and serums eventually locking in my own routine with outstanding results. I have never been so dedicated to using skin care products before. And knowing I was helping animals was icing on the cake. So here we are, 2 years and hundreds of products sold later. What makes my heart truly happy is hearing how much you love the products. Farmhouse Fresh is here to stay!! The next time you pop in to see what is new, don't forget to check out Farmhouse Fresh. Before you know it, you will be a Farmie too!!!

The Holidays

I was chatting with a customer about home decor. This year has been exceptionally different with many tossing out the old and moving to more of a winter theme- snowflakes, deer and trees of all different styles. Done in more neutral colors with pops of green, red, silver and gold. Classic, understated, timeless. The store is set with twinkling lights, votives and candles to create a peaceful and calm ambience. Natural textures of wood, iron and glass abound. It really is a magical time of year!! Then we got to the age-old question- what do I need to complete the look in my home? How do I remember from year to year what I have? We both had a version of the same idea- take pictures!! On my personal phone I have photos of the key places I decorate in my home from season to season. The mantle, shelving, dining area etc. This really serves two purposes: 1) when I am shopping and see something out of season, I can check my pictures to see if I have a place for it or want to replace something and 2) help me set up with ease knowing things are just the way I want them. I have also seen it done where people will put printed photos on the totes, they store the decor in. This helps quickly locate items and also reminds you how it was set up. So, friends, there you have it- my solution to help you keep track of what you have!!
